Welcome to York Region Senior Tamils' Centre
Region Senior Tamilsí Centre was inaugurated in November 2007
with just 25 members. The Centre has since surpassed the 200
mark, by the year end, 2013.
Our aims and objectives are:
i) To encourage seniors to contribute their skills,
experience and wisdom, in support of social well-being in the
Tamil Community in particular and others in general in the York
ii) To promote the ongoing involvement of seniors with
other similar organizations and to adapt to the Canadian way of
iii) To assess the common social and health problems of the
seniors and explore ways of meeting these needs by
raising awareness about the abuse and neglect of older adults.
iv) To encourage the engagement of youth with senior
activities and to promote arts and culture.
v) To promote a Seniors for Seniors Project that would
reduce loneliness, social and spiritual isolation thereby
assisting seniors living alone, in their own homes and in elder
care centres; and, to provide information on seniors programs
and services of The Governments of Ontario and Canada.
Current programs include services geared towards active
senior participation and their well being.
Computer Literacy, Yoga, Scientific
Cutting, Healthy cooking, Costume Jewellery Making, Photography
and Newsletter Publishing.
Classes are conducted every Sunday, at The Rouge Woods Community
Centre, 110 Shirley Drive, Richmond Hill, ON. YRSTC has rented
additional recreation facilities at the Centre from November
2013, in view of the increased interest and active participation
of our members in all the above programs.
In addition, tours of historical interest, picnics, cultural and
religious activities are also arranged for the benefit of all
our members who actively participate and volunteer in these
